- Smoked Salmon – Dill and Caper Cream Cheese on Sourdough with a Poached Egg, Rocket and Artichoke Salad
274 Barkly Street, Brunswick Ph: (03) 9387 6079
Breakfast served until 4pm
I love going out to breakfast, no surprises there, and after so many it takes a lot to really upset me or really blow me away. So I am pleased to say breakfast at Wide Open Road in Brunswick blew me away.
First a thanks to some of the friendliest staff in Melbourne who were incredibly patient when I asked for a table for two that wasn’t communal and then changed my mind to sit on the corner of a communal table.
At Wide Open Road you won’t even notice the water ninjas continually refresh your water as they juggle the stream of people coming in and out.
Along with great food Wide Open Road roast their own coffee which you can purchase on your way out.
Jacasta had the ‘Smoked Salmon with Dill and Caper Cream Cheese on Sourdough with a Poached Egg, Rocket, & Artichoke Salad’. The salad was fresh and contrasting nicely with the cream cheese. The poached egg was also perfectly poached (I want to try it).
I had the Buttermilk Pancakes with coconut, rhubarb, lemon curd and whipped mascarpone. What a delicious joy they were, I haven’t had pancakes in a while and the tart rhubarb combined with the sourness of the lemon curd stopped the sweet mascarpone from being overwhelming. And there was coconut, coconut and pancakes… hello.
It is extremely well set out with a mix of communal and individual tables and some cool booths as well.
The interior is comprised of mixed decor with a 70s warehouse type feel, but we found a particular love for the terrariums dotted throughout. personally I loved the one with little people (it’s little people!!) (pictured).
And, do we want to stay for breakfast? I can’t wait to go back and try the eggs for myself

I agree, Wide Open Road is lovely. The pancakes are spectacular and it’s just a really nice environment to sit in.
