Small Block, delicious, delicious Small Block. Small Block is at 130 Lygon St, East Brunswick and the staff are wonderfully friendly, especially considering the long lines for a table, the constant frenetic pace and the small children making a mess at the tables. You will have to wait for a table if you get there before 1 but you get to wait on the stairs and if you are a bad person like me you can listen in on people’s conversations whilst you wait for your friends. I got to hear the following snippet: ‘I deleted his number last week because he’s a b**tard and now I’ve got this random text message and I’m like, I wish I’d written it down, how am I supposed to know if it was him?’ I personally thought this was brilliant because it entertained me, and, well, because we’ve all been there.
The best thing about Small Block are the ricotta pancakes, the greatest pancakes I have ever eaten. They are an experience in themselves, even if you get another meal and split the pancakes just to have a taste I recommend you do it. They are simple: ricotta pancakes, honey, with poached pears and barbados cream and they are to die for.
I should mention that the eggs at are also great and they have a great selection. Ms. Hill had the bircher muesli which comes with rhubarb and yoghurt and was also great, but I think you should go to Small Block for something more exciting, say… the pancakes.
And, do we want to stay for breakfast? Yes, again and again
